The Fashion Makeup Artist Program is simply the first 7 weeks of our Advanced program; beauty with no special effects education.

Our small class size and intense hands-on training separate us from other schools. At AMUA we make this an integral part of our philosophy, paired with approachable and highly qualified instructors. We begin with beauty basics and progress into high fashion looks for runway and photography. This provides a solid foundation and the technical skills necessary to launch careers in commercial, advertising, bridal, editorial, music video, film and HDTV.

From the very beginning, we incorporate lighting and photography in real-life applications working with local photographers and models. We then critique the experience and results while discussing how to improve. This process gives our students practical experience and the confidence they need to step into the workplace upon graduation.

For a well-rounded education, this program then delves deep into the history of makeup. We work through the decades, examining the products and trends of the eras and creating the vintage looks in our studio. Understanding our history as makeup artists and the cosmetics used creates “next-level” work from our students and alumni; they are in-tune with trends of the past compared to current trends and the trends of tomorrow. This comprehensive approach is key to our philosophy at AMUA.

Beyond expert makeup skills, an understanding of the business end of the industry is critical. Our students complete this program with professional photos of their work, a portfolio, website and business cards. They will have an understanding of where to find work, how to book work, and how to maintain a professional edge in this competitive industry.
