1. Tell us a little about what you’ve been working on since your time at AMUA
I’m originally from San Diego and I decided to take on the Advanced class and moved to Nashville in 2013. I moved back about a year later. I started doing a couple weddings right off the bat and then was hired by a young actress named Ava Cantrell. You can see her in New Line Cinema’s Lights Out, Nickelodeon’s Haunted Hathaways, and newly released indie film called One Under the Sun. She’s done commercials for Dell and Samsung. Her management and PR team have kept me pretty busy in the last couple years. About a year into red carpets, I picked up an aspiring country singer who saw my work on Ava and began doing some of her promotional images for Nashville Star. Ava’s charity, movie, and party press events keep me pretty busy between February and September. The remaining months are for headshots and mass photoshoots for social media promotion throughout the year.
2. What’s your dream?
It’s already a dream come true doing red carpet events! I love seeing my work on Getty Images and PR Photos. I definitely would say though that I would love to get a couple more young stars like Ava and Wendy! That would be ideal! When these girls get amazing press, so do you! Also, 2-3 events a month is the equivalent of a part time job for me. Adding a couple more clients would mean I could work full time as a makeup artist without the hustle of constantly searching for clients.
3. What advice would you give to a new aspiring makeup artist?
Find someone you can grow with! Creating a team around you is essential for longevity. Find photographers, models, actors, etc who are in it for the long haul and vibe with you. There’s so many new aspiring people out there just like you and like the cliche says-there’s strength in numbers! I would also say that social media can be your best friend. I’m not always the greatest keeping up with it but developing a presence on instagram and Facebook can do wonders!
