We love hearing what alumni have been up to since they graduated from AMUA because they end up doing really amazing things! Today we’re featuring Claire Mints, who has completed Makeup for TV/Film, Special Effects, and The Art of Wig Making.
Claire shares: “Even while at AMUA I was able to get a lot of jobs, from a few weddings to heading the Special Effects team for a student film to helping with wigs in a Nashville Opera. I even had a small gig with Netflix UK while they were in Nashville doing a PR shoot for Sex Education. Check it out here.
After graduation, my career continued to take off thanks to recommendations and encouragement from everyone at AMUA. One of my favorite jobs includes a short film called “Reunion” which has made it to a few film festivals such as the Nightmares Film Festival. I also got to lead up the makeup team for a music video with one of my favorite musicians, Drew Holcomb. See it here. This lead to a commercial job for Groove Life where I did seven makeup looks – all three makeup courses at AMUA helped with this one!”
“I also was able to lead a few makeup camps and workshops at AMUA this summer! While there was a huge learning curve in being the teacher instead of the student, I had a blast! It was an amazing experience getting to share my passion with some dedicated students. AMUA is doing some great things for the future generations of makeup artists, and I’m so happy I could be a part of that as their intern for the last year. I’m currently headed to Atlanta in search of a job at a Special Effects studio or at a theatre/opera. I never realized how much work I had in the last year and a half until I was putting together my resumes. I worked on a feature film in Georgia last December, so I’m excited to get back there and earn some more credits in the Hollywood of the South! It’s nervewracking moving somewhere without a job officially lined up, but I’ll hit the ground running knowing I’ve learned from some of the best.”
