Academy of Make Up Arts is seeking a few good artists to help brighten up the lobby with a mural, and is offering cash prizes.
We are holding a contest to select a mural that will be painted on the left entry wall of our lobby. This is a highly trafficked space visible to students and visitors of AMUA.
Submissions in every form of two dimensional media are encouraged—such as painting, photography, graphic design, printmaking, and drawing.
The mural should occupy approximately 6’x8’ of wall space in the center of the 19’x8’ wall.
The rules are pretty simple:
- The mural should depict the school’s learn-by-doing mantra
- Designs are limited to 7 colors: red, deep violet, teal, yellow, natural, black, and white
- One entry per person or group (students, alumni, instructors)
- Designs must be submitted by April 20
- Winner will be announced on April 21
- Designs must be accompanied by a narrative explaining the concept for the proposed mural
- Designs must be uploaded to shared via Google Drive to ashley@theamua.com as PDF and Illustrator files with a color legend
- The creator of the winning mural design will be awarded $350 plus up to $150 reimbursement for materials needed to do complete the mural
- If selected, the mural must be completed/installed by May 10, 2021 so be READY to go!
Winner Announcement!
The winners of the Mural Wall Contest are Rebecca Hagedoorn of Hawthorne, NJ and Lane Baker of Murray, KY! Both Rebecca and Lane current students in the Performance Makeup Artist Program.
Our design for the new AMUA mural represents the diversity of the material we learn in
Rebecca Hagedoorn and Lane Baker
this academy. The centerpiece consists of a staked series of faces representing high fashion
makeup, aging techniques, natural beauty and special effects makeup. Being PMA’s, we have
experienced virtually every department this school has offered so far, and we feel that the
representation of tools and projects that we placed in the squares shows the diversity of this
curriculum. The black and white renderings contrasted with the squares of color shows how you
can really mold the classes with yourself to create an environment of personalized learning.
We’ve have had experience creating murals in high school, but with the help of
AMUA’s design class that we have both taken, we feel this mural would be an eyecatcher that
perfectly represents the school to anyone who enters.
The winners will be given time to fine-tune their design before their brushes hit the wall.
Come back to see the finished mural when it’s completed in June, 2021!
