We’ve had a busy month here at AMUA. Our students are halfway through their semesters and have wrapped up yet another project. We’re happy to say they all made it through their midpoint evaluations!
Sneak Peek Event
Our Sneak Peek event was a fun success! Many of those who came signed up for courses and discovered what their future holds with us at AMUA by touring the space. Attendees got a fantastic first look at what being a student here means and the work that goes into each course. We want to thank our current students who answered questions and showed off their work! It was a huge help to each and everyone who came.
Mural Update
After lots of hard work, our students Rebecca Hagedoorne and Lane Baker completed our new mural! As winners of the mural design contest, they won $350 cash and painted the mural themselves. We couldn’t be more proud! When you come to tour AMUA, be sure to check it out in our lobby!
Alumni Update and reHire
While a Complete Track student at AMUA, Claire Mints also became our social media intern. She left for Georgia after graduation to pursue a career down in Y’allywood. We’re happy to have her back on our social media team again and she gave us an update on all she’s been doing since she left:
“During school, I booked my first few films, my first opera, and lots of weddings and photoshoots which lead me to join the Local IASTE Union before graduating. Now, I’m focusing on films and building up a Special Effects studio of my own. It’s been a lot of fun to get clients outside of the film industry.
From the eight films and TV shows I worked on, I was head of the makeup department for over half. My favorite so far is “Bandit,” a 1980’s period piece where I helped design thirteen different disguises for the main character. Juggling period-accurate makeup with all of the prosthetics for the disguises made “Bandit” the most challenging and most rewarding film yet! I even got to rent out and style a lot of the wigs used. Most of what I worked on has been with a fellow alumnus, Carson Pack. We became a dream team instantly!
In the two years after graduating from AMUA I’ve been able to work with independent films as well as HBO, Netflix, and just finished my first Marvel film! I’m eternally grateful for everyone at AMUA and the support they’ve given me since I first started.”
