August Recap

What's happening at AMUA

It goes without saying this has been an incredibly strange year! We’re so happy to report that we’re back in class and projects are picking up for our students and recent grads. Here’s a little bit of AMUA news for ya!

Creature Comfort - "Big, Buff, and Handsome" Official Music Video

AMUA grad, Erin Strange, sculpted and painted Bigfoot in the music video, “Big, Buff, and Handsome,” by Creature Comfort released on August 26, 2020. She also worked as the lead on the set of the music video where she was assisted by her AMUA peer, Taylor Martin. Current student, Jane Ward, ventilated some of the hair pieces for the project. A great job to all, and what a fun project to be a part of! Check it out…

We have several other projects in the works, so stay tuned to our blog and Instagram to get the latest behind-the-scenes moments!

Alumni Update - Morgan Gilmore Prepares to Apply for IATSE Local 798 Union Membership

After about 18 months of living and working in New York City post-AMUA, Morgan Gilmore has well over 30 theatre credits, including 2 designer credits. She’s worked diligently and is now ready to apply to IATSE for membership. Please join us in sending her positive vibes as she strives for this very exciting milestone! Morgan studied makeup, special effects, and wig & hair design at AMUA.

Current Students Work on Art Foundations to Become Better Artists

sneak peek day at amua

At AMUA, we believe in sharing the gift of failure. Ask any alumni of our school director Michael Meyer, and you’ll likely hear a horror story about how he let someone completely ventilate a wig upside down before pointing it out. We’ve seen blood, sweat, and tears (literally). And our students have learned invaluable lessons. If you’re looking for a little tough-love to perfect your skillset, look no further!

The student pictured here is in the 1st term of our new Performance Makeup Artist program. In the first term, students take History of Makeup, Intro to Drawing, Intro to Sculpting, Character Design I, Intro to Photography, and Intro to Costuming.

Students may take individual courses, or comprehensive programs. You can view our entire course catalog here. Courses begin in January and August, with a summer session in between.
