Growth Predicted in Film & Television Jobs

You do not need an Academy Award or an Emmy in order to be a success in the film and television business. Actors are obviously the most visible occupation in the field, but many people provide their talents to make movies and TV shows. The good news is that many of these occupations are projected to have employment growth that is faster than average, over the 2016-26 period.

Let’s look at some examples from this article.

Art directors determine the overall style of the production, and makes sure costumes, makeup and the set looks authentic for the period the movie or TV show is filmed in. Employment of art directors is projected to grow 5.4%.

Costume attendants select, fit, and take care of costumes for the cast. There are often multiple costume changes during performances, and costume attendants are projected to have employment growth of 9.7%.

Makeup artists apply makeup to performers to reflect period, setting and situation of their role. We saved this one for last because the employment of makeup artists is projected to rise by 12.5%!

Pulitzer Prize-winning play A Streetcar Named Desire tells the tragic tale of faded Southern belle Blanche DuBois. Karen Sternberg takes on the role at the Nashville Repertory Theatre February 6-23, and sees more to Blanche’s character than just a victim.

“I think of Blanche as poetry in a prose world,” says Karen Sternberg. “She just can’t quite find her footing, and none of the tactics she relied upon as a young, wealthy woman work for her anymore. There’s something quite compelling about this aging woman, desperately trying to find her place in a world that no longer embraces her.”

Looking ahead...

Nashville Opera announced Opera Noir film fest, in partnership with Nashville Film Festival. 

Tennessee’s most innovative filmmakers are invited to create short black-and-white films inspired by John Hoomes’ new noir staging of Verdi’s Rigoletto. The winning film will be showcased as part of Nashville Opera’s Rigoletto at TPAC Jakcson Hall, on April 9 and 11. 

Filmmakers’ Launch Event – Thursday February 6th at 6:30PM at the Noah Liff Opera Center

Black & White Bash Screening Event – Sunday March 1st, at 6PM at the Noah Liff Opera Center

54 Hour Film Fest

This film fest is a competition where participating teams take on the challenge of creating a short film all the way from conception to completion within 54 hours.
