Recapping the Best of September 2019

Recapping the Best of September 2019

We’ve compiled AMUA’s September highlights for you! We’re sharing behind the scenes photos of our classroom, what our alumni and faculty have been up to, and any other news that we think you will find interesting.

AMUA Students Worked on New Horror Movie

The new horror movie Night Sitter is out, which tells the story of a con artist posing as a babysitter to steal from a wealthy occult enthusiast. One of the kids she’s sitting summons a trio of witches known as The Three Mothers.

Kathleen Downs shares: “Working on the Night Sitter was so incredible. It was a real-time learning experience about the entire process of making a movie. As a Special Effects Makeup artist, it’s hugely important to understand when and where I need to be at all times.

I loved being on set for this movie. I was lucky to work with amazing people for my first “real” movie-making experience. I was able to collaborate with the director and camera guys on certain effects to achieve the intended visuals.

Personally, I love a good blood rig, and I definitely got my fill on the Night Sitter! Who knew crouching behind something, covered in paint and fake blood, ready to unleash hell in the form of a highly pressurized blood bath would be my happy place!” Watch the trailer here.

The AMUA Crew included:

  • Honey Bee – On set Makeup Artist

  • Kelley Martin- On set Makeup Artist

New Projects in the Classrooms

We have some exciting news to share! AMUA is starting to work with students on 3D Printing and Animatronics. One of our students, Madison, is test piloting the upcoming program and explains: “Essentially, I am building a full body monster equipped with an animatronic head, prosthetic chest, back and arms. The upcoming animatronics program will greatly improve problem solving skills, which is actually 80% of what is happening on a daily basis in the life of an artist. Read more here.
