Academy of Make Up Arts is very excited to introduce the newest member of our team, Michael C. Meyer. Michael is currently the Director of Wig and Makeup at University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He will bid UNC farewell this summer in order to launch a wig design program here at AMUA this fall. Our newest program is designed entirely by Michael, who is a professionally qualified wig maker having over 30 years experience with wig design, period accurate wig styling, custom wig making, wig alterations, wig construction for film and stage, full lace wig making, custom switch making, and a lot more. He is a Licensed makeup artist and Hairstylist in Europe. His skills range from the traditional rooted techniques to cutting edge new materials and HDTV techniques, full-lace foundations on molded or foamed heads.
About Michael Meyer
Before working as a Director at the Wig and Makeup at University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Michael was working with the San Francisco Opera (1989-2002) and Hannovar State Theater (1991-1998). He holds a professional license from German Stage Association and the German State Board of Cosmetology. He has also worked as a guest lecturer at the Taiwan National University of the Arts and at the Central Academy Of Drama, Beijing. He has spent more than 30 years in the field of wig making, designing and teaching and now he will be sharing all his experience through The Art of Wigs and Hair Program at Academy of Make Up Arts. Michael’s students have ventured out to successful careers on Broadway, film and theater crossing over into the medical and educational fields.
The Art of Wigs and Hair Program
We are happy to say that ours will be the only private makeup school in U.S. providing this type and level of program. Students will learn a lot of intricacies and complexities of wig making, starting from simple facial hair techniques to advanced wig making and period styling techniques. Each student will be provided with a professional styling and wig construction kit. And like our other programs, this one will be hands-on from day one.
