When we say our students come here to work, we mean it! This time last year, three of our graduates worked together in south Georgia on a film that's releasing this Friday. Happy Birthday to us! We passed an exciting mile marker on November 10th as The Academy of Make Up Arts turned 10 years old! A decade ago we opened our doors thanks to the authorization of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission Division of Postsecondary Schools. Our first program was a 4-week study of beauty makeup and basic special effects makeup. Today we offer everything from week-long summer camps to diploma courses lasting up to 3 years! The Assignment that Launched a Thousand Ships Students in our PMA and Wig programs traditionally spend time during their last semester completing a project that is not for the faint of heart. The ship wig project is one of the most challenging wig builds and dates back to the 1700s. Marie Antoinette might come to mind when thinking of a ship wig, and you wouldn't be wrong. One of her most famous hairstyles was her hair in waves with a ship sitting atop them in celebration of a naval victory. Seeking Designs for Mural Wall

Academy of Make Up Arts is seeking a few good artists to help brighten up the lobby with a mural, and is offering cash prizes.  We are holding a contest to select a mural that will be painted on the left entry wall of our lobby. This is a highly trafficked space visible to students and visitors of AMUA.  Submissions in every form of two dimensional media are encouraged—such as painting, photography, graphic design, printmaking, and drawing.
