Here's What's Happening at AMUA Our current students have been very active in our community lately, taking part in multiple productions including a live fashion show for Tribe Talent Management, The Man of Mode at Belmont University,  Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Keeton Theatre and Nashville's 54 Hour Film Festival. Belmont University- Man of Mode Our Wig Design Students created and styled 24 wigs for the George Etheredge play set in Restoration London. Alumni Spotlight: Jennifer Ortiz

Jennifer Ortiz is a graduate of the Academy of Make Up Arts Special Effects and  Fashion programs as well as The Art of Wig and Hair Design Program. Within the past year, she's assisted in the wig department of the Nashville Opera’s adaptation “Susannah.” Over the summer, Jennifer had the opportunity to do an internship in Saratoga Springs, New York working in the Wig and Makeup department for the Saratoga Springs 2018 Summer Program, which included the four operas “Merry Widow,” “Rockinghorse,” “Consul,” and “Vikensport.” Jennifer tells us, "I was able to get a more in-depth of the technical aspect…

Academy of Makeup Arts Alumni Kella Groves produced an impressive amount of work since her graduation a few short months ago. Immediately after graduating from the Makeup for TV & Film Program in March, she won "Best Makeup" in the 54 Hour Film Fest for the short film titled "Diamond in the Rough". After that, she applied makeup for more competition films, such as “Gatlinburg” by Broken Entertainment in Knoxville, TN.  Along with a series pilot “Troll Hunters” by Stormlight Pictures in Nashville, TN. Academy of Makeup Arts Alumni Nissi Bergman took a moment to tell us about some of her recent work. She's worked with major music industry artists Montgomery Gentry ("Get Down South" Music Video) and Delta Rae (Big Machine Records Photoshoot). Meko Davis Recent Work Meko Davis, a 2011 alumni of Academy of Make Up Arts' Makeup for Retail & Bridal Program recently worked on Kevin “Mr. Wonderful” O’ Leary from Shark Tank, on a show call Shark Tank Meets Shark Week that aired on Discovery’s Channel’s Shark Week.     Academy of Makeup Arts Alumni, Elaina Dilts hit the ground running after graduating just a few months ago. She updated us on the work she accomplished so far, and we're so proud! To start, Elaina told us "I worked on Laura Citron’s fall clothing collection, Locke and Key Jewelry’s spring and fall shoots, as well as a photoshoot for an exhibition at Oz Arts Nashville in November. AMUA Student Wins Best Makeup Artist At 54 Film Fest

We would like to congratulate recent Advanced Makeup Artist Program graduate, Kella Groves, for winning Best Makeup Artist for her work on "Diamond in the Rough" at Nashville's 54 Hour Film Festival. Why Theatre Professionals Might Choose Trade School Over University

As I was finishing my undergraduate degree in Theatre in the late 1990s, I spent countless hours deciding which graduate program I should continue on with. If I was serious about a career in professional theatre and/or film and TV, it seemed more degrees were necessary. The cosmetics industry has changed a lot in the last couple of decades. Our grandmothers had much fewer options. There was inexpensive drug store makeup on one end, and on the other, limited luxury brands like Chanel.
